The stratigraphical evidence in this room is similar to that in room III. The earliest floor is not really a floor but simply the surface of a thin deposit (0,25 m. in thickness) overlying the rock. Although this deposit abuts on the foundations of the walls of the room and might have been taken as belonging to the period immediately following the erection of the building, it is to be interpreted rather as a thin deposit which accumulated on the bedrock before the erection of the building (1). It would have been cut through by the foundation trenches and subsequently levelled off against the newly constructed masonry. Its surface which is at level 13.21 was left exposed as in room II and served as a floor (VI) for a short period following which a thick filling consisting, as in room III, of limestone flakes and gravel was added to bring the floor level with that of the earliest floors of the Main Building.

The ceramic evidence found in a sounding between what I call floor VI and the rock revealed only one /Middle or floors

(1) No architectural remains were encountered in the earlier deposit in this room.
