II°. South of the first East-West street.

The area excavated in 1955 lies west of the previous region and reaches the junction with the North-South street.

A/ First alley to the East.

In a small rectangular room 2.50 m. East-West by 1.50 m. North-South, without visible access, two occupation floors are distinguished, at 0.80 m. and at 1.60 m. respectively.

The upper floor, on which rests at 0.50 a fragment in black steatite (Pt. 25), consists of a deposit of grey ash, with storage jars with ogival base and carinated shoulder (Pt. 37), of the beginning of Iron I.

On the lower floor lay fragments of bone, of bronze and of pottery (Pt. 37): painted sherds of Late Bronze III at 1.60 m., local Mycenaean, lamp with pinched spout, fragment of "milk bowl", spittoons and bolas in knife-trimmed pottery, bola hand-made with a "wish-bone" type handle. On the same floor were grouped five cylindrical stone weights (Pt. 51). The body of the floor consisted of slag and reddish burnt earth.

Below this floor, at 1.90 m., was a kind of stone channel, and at 2 m. one reached virgin soil, composed of red clayey earth. In the North-West corner of the room, a jar containing animal bones was set into this virgin soil. The mouth downward (Pt. 39).

B/ XIXXX The small alleys further West.

Three small alleys follow one another west of the previous one; they are very poor in finds.

In the first, a tripod basalt mortar dish, 40 cm. in diameter, was found at 1.40 m. depth (Pt. 27). In the second, elongated but less than two m. wide, there was at the same depth a steatite cylinder (Pt. 43). The third, of the same width, contained only a steatite "océan" (Pt. 45), at 0.50 m. depth.
