The soil conditions in room 16 are exceptionally simple. The flat, well-preserved cement floor is covered by a layer about 1 m thick of mixed red and white brick fragments or earth of decomposed brick. No ash stratification can be established in this layer. On this layer directly lies the dark surface layer.
280281Directly on the floor in this room a couple of finds were made: an iron nail (length 12 cm) (280). Along the same wall as this find (see the sketch), on both sides of the gateway a quantity of fragments of a bronze band (--- cm broad) were found, 281. Among these fragments some are provided with excellent punched ornaments. The bronze band may perhaps have been applied to the wall from which it fell onto the floor. Along the other walls no such fragments were found. (The same day, the anniversary of the start of the Sun excavation, a large archaic head double head was found in room 14. See below.)
