256… layer of cement like that of the previously described floors. At least at the opening, between the cement and the rock, a layer of pottery was also observed (cf. the pottery floors in house 2 at the top). Slightly lower than the mouth of the cistern the rock is levelled smooth into a floor, in which a channel is cut, which leads down into the cistern through a hole in the wall immediately below the mouth. Further down in the shaft the rock is uneven and slopes away downward. About 5 m from the cistern the rock approaches the earth surface closely. Here there is only the dark surface layer; immediately below this point the rock sinks to c 0,50 m below that, while the earth still has the same dark colour down to the bottom. Here only 0,25 m below the ground surface, lying on its back, a badly damaged torso of a large male archaic statue in a hard stone (256) was found.
