Marble head of a woman with wavy hair swept back, photographed against a dark background. — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Csn0958. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A carved stone head and upper neck of a female figure, with a smooth face, heavy-lidded eyes and a small mouth. The hair is arranged in deep, wavy ridges across the top and sides of the head. The head is lit from the left against a very dark background, so the edges fade into shadow; the surface looks pale and slightly worn.
