Glyptic, cylinder seal (A.J.8.84)

Cylinder seal from Ayios Iakovos, photographed upright, with carved bands and a central motif. — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C09677a. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A cylindrical seal stands upright against a plain grey backdrop, filling most of the frame. Its surface shows several horizontal bands, with a raised, angular motif in the lower half and a ridged band along the bottom edge. The image is soft and low in contrast, so the finer details of the carving are hard to make out.
