Carved bearded male face in relief, with feather-like shapes on either side, set into a wall above a framed opening — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C08519. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A carved relief of a bearded man's face with curled hair and a full beard fills the centre of the image. Rows of overlapping, feather-like shapes spread out on both sides of the face across a rough, pale stone or plaster surface. Below it a dark wooden frame surrounds a pale panel, and the relief appears built into the wall rather than shown as a loose object.
