Limestone Neo-Cypriote, sculpture (K. 415)

Limestone sculpture of a head from Kition, turned to the left, with narrowed eyes and a broad band across the brow — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C06436. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A limestone head with a rounded skull and a broad band across the forehead, turned toward the left of the frame. The eyes are narrowly closed, the nose is straight, and the lips and rounded chin are clearly modelled, while the rough surface shows wear. The right ear is sharply formed, and the neck and a fragment of shoulder run down to the bottom edge against a plain grey backdrop.
