Limestone Cypro-Greek I Kition II (K. 387)

Limestone head of a statue from Kition, front view, with a ridged headband and a square beard — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C06307b. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A carved limestone head with a broad, ridged band across the top, large ears, heavy-lidded eyes and a broad nose. The head is shown frontally on a light plinth with a white paper label at its base, and the neck ends in a broken, jagged edge. The pitted, weathered surface stands out against a plain grey background.
