Marble Sculpture

Headless marble sculpture of a seated, draped figure, photographed against a crumpled cloth backdrop
Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C05464. Public domain (CC0).

Description

The figure sits with a long garment gathered by a belt under the chest, and heavy folds fall across the lap and down over the legs. The head is missing and one arm is broken off at the shoulder, while the base at the bottom is plain and rough. The statue stands against a crumpled cloth backdrop, which makes the stone surface and its worn texture stand out.
