Limestone Cypro-Greek I Kition III, statuette (K. 100)

Limestone head fragment from Kition with almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and a ridged headdress — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, C02940. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A head carved in pale limestone, showing a face with heavy almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and a small mouth. The headdress has diagonal incised ridges and rows of notched curls, and the rough, pitted surface and broken chin show it is a fragment. It is photographed at a slight angle against a plain light grey background, with a number label written in the lower corner.
