Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Huilerie
Object card: 1972. Mission archéologique française de Kition-Salamine (MOM, Lyon), Nakala, SAL_7015. "Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Huilerie". CC BY 4.0. Resized.
Head of the Great Goddess in Calathos form, moulded hollow, pinkish-brown fabric, from the Huilerie sector, square I III/ε3, Classical period; height 7.5 cm. The nose is broken off, the mouth and chin are damaged, and the top of the calathos is missing. The face is oval, with curly hair forming a clearly defined bulge in an arc across the forehead; the calathos has an indistinct lower edge and flat lateral faces, and its decoration of five slightly concave studs appears directly on the hair. Earrings are concave and pendant studs, perhaps a small lock of hair returning under each ear; the back is slightly convex, unworked and poorly smoothed. Inventory Tc_2121; 6 July 1972.
