Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Salamis
Object card: 1969. Mission archéologique française de Kition-Salamine (MOM, Lyon), Nakala, SAL_5111. "Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Salamis". CC BY 4.0. Resized.
Head of the Great Goddess in calathos, Classical period, from the area south of the rampart, square K VI/δ4. Pale beige fabric with rusty-looking surface in places; hollow mould-made head with convex back, smoothed, and an open calathos. The head is incomplete, with the top of the calathos broken and worn; the face is oval with coarse features, the eyes effaced, and the nose long and strong, turned to the right. The calathos is decorated in relief with an alternation of simplified griffins, with feathered wings indicated, and uncircled rosettes, perhaps type 1 but well drawn. Inventory Tc_1969; 5 September 1969.
