Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Salamis

Fragment of the upper part of a head with brow, hair and calathos (broken on the right), Classical period, from the area south of the rampart, square K VI/δ4 (south-east). Mould-made, hollow; the head is 13.5 cm high, with a closed calathos flattened at the top and very oblique at the back, a strongly marked right eyebrow arch, and hair drawn to the sides and wound over a visible frontal band; the decoration runs from a band of concave pastilles with central points, up through a row of very stylised griffins, with the central points of the pastilles applied separately, and the calathos continues undecorated and painted green, with traces of green paint, pink fabric and cream slip. H. 13,5. Il ne reste que le haut du visage, avec une arcade sourcilière très marquée et le front largement découvert. Cheveux tirés sur les côtés, et enroulés sur un bandeau frontal bien visible au centre on discerne encore l'arcade sourcilière droite. Pâte rose et engobe crème tresse au-dessus. Calathos au bord inférieur distinct, en mince filet
