Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Salamis

Complete terracotta head with the start of the neck, reddish-brown (brick-red) fabric, from the area south of the rampart, square K VI/δ4; Classical period. Open calathos, nose continuing the line of the forehead, moulded brow arches, rounded and smoothed back, full cheeks, thick chin, almond-shaped eyes with bulging lids; the right side is more carefully finished than the left, H. 16.7 cm. The right ear is drawn (contour visible) while the left ear detail is omitted; the hair is raised like a pediment and fully curled, with a veil that perhaps lies between the hair and the calathos, which rises straight and forms three broad flat relief tabs. Only a conical pendant earring is shown. Same mould as Sal_2054, but with a much lower calathos. Inventory Tc_1333; 19 September 1968.

Il semble qu'il y ait un voile entre la chevelure, qu'il épouse, et le calathos, au bord inférieur légèrement distinct, qui monte droit, en formant trois larges languettes en relief plat. Boucle d'oreille : pendant conique seul (on n'en voit pas l'attache). Tête du même moule que Sal_2054, mais avec un calathos bien moins haut. Tête complète, avec départ du cou. Pâte rouge brique
