Crouching quadruped figurine with red paint, Salamis
Object card: 1968. Mission archéologique française de Kition-Salamine (MOM, Lyon), Nakala, SAL_3510. "Crouching quadruped figurine with red paint, Salamis". CC BY 4.0. Resized.
Complete figurine of a crouching animal, 7.5 cm long and 4.5 cm high, shown biting or eating something. It was probably entirely painted, as red paint appears in many places (notably at the ends of the forelegs, on the ears, the top of the neck and the back); the red paint is still vivid but survives only as traces. The long neck suggests a feline, although neither the head nor the body matches that kind of animal; it could equally be a dog if the neck were not so long. A solid, modelled piece with an added element (object or food); chips on the end of the right hind leg and the tail; white, porous fabric, like chalk. area south of the rampart, square K VI/γ4, Salamis, 7 September 1968. Inventory Tc_1028; negatives 00891_04, 00891_05, 00891_06, 00512_04; drawing D_0429; slide C_3349; plate PL_20.
