Terracotta head of the Great Goddess with calathos, Classical

Incomplete head of the Great Goddess in calathos, from the area south of the rampart, Classical period, found in square K VI/γ3 at Salamis, Cyprus. Hollow-moulded pinkish-beige fabric; the top of the calathos is missing, the features are effaced and the nose is broken; the calathos is worn, with ring-and-dot pellets on its convex centre and three griffins with long wings raised to the plumes, separated by pellets like those at the base. The back is smoothed at the middle (finger traces), with clay-smeared joins; the lateral panels take the form of small columns (perhaps), and there seems to be an earring on the right. Apparently from the same mould as Sal_2369. H. 14 cm; the face is roughly square in general shape. Inventory Tc_0854; 10 April 1967.

Il semblerait qu'il y ait un pendant d'oreille à droite. Apparemment du même moule que Sal_2369. pub : SAL_PUB_139892_XIV_CAT_14_0088_p_0052 front court et nez droit. Cheveux en bourrelet frontal continu jusqu'aux oreilles (non apparentes), à peine distinct. Calathos usé : pastilles-anneaux au centre convexe et 3 griffons aux ailes longues relevées jusqu'au plumet et avec, de part et d'autre du corps, de petites boules, les dits griffons étant séparés entre eux par une pastille identique à celles de la base traits du visage effacés, nez brisé. Pâte beige rosé. Moulée creuse calathos ouvert. H. 14. Visage de forme générale carrée
