Terracotta head of Great Goddess with calathos, Rampart
Object card: 1966. Mission archéologique française de Kition-Salamine (MOM, Lyon), Nakala, SAL_1103. "Terracotta head of Great Goddess with calathos, Rampart". CC BY 4.0. Resized.
Head of the Great Goddess with a calathos, complete with the start of the neck, in beige-pink fabric, hollow-moulded; the back is flat. Very worn: the nose is broken, the mouth closed with the lip outline effaced, and the top of the calathos broken on the left; the ears are not freed. The hair forms a thick continuous frontal roll of twisted strands down to the ears, and the calathos has a very faded decoration of a row of small beads and a floral motif, perhaps a lotus flower. H. 11.4 cm; the face is slightly tilted to the left, with the eyes appearing deeply set through wear. Classical period. Sector Rampart; square Γ23; K V/δ10. Inventory Tc_0156; 28 September 1966.
