Moulded Roman lamp with charioteer, Rampart sector

Moulded lamp, Type 16, of fine hard red clay with a red slip that has turned orange, H. 2.1 cm, ø 8.6 cm, L. 9.6 cm. Slight relief; the rim was to be decorated with a row of ovolo, and three circles in slight relief frame the medallion showing a charioteer whipping his bige. Incomplete: the back of the handle, one side of the medallion and the front of the nozzle are broken; two filling holes, one beneath the horses' legs and a smaller one at the bottom of the medallion just above the nozzle. Roman period, square K VI/β1; α25, Rampart sector, Salamis, Cyprus. Inventory L_0245; 23 September 1966.
