In the following lists the numbers in the column to the left are those printed on the film, except in one or two cases when the films had no printed numbers, and were given serial numbers in ink. The separate rolls were cut from bulk film and inserted in the cassettes without attention to direction, so that the order of exposure, here adhered to, is often numbered in reverse, cf. the first three films. Note that all tombs and trenches, etc., mentioned here in object lists or excavation records are at the site of Ayios Ermoyenis (St. Hermogenes).

Note on ApparatusUsed in Exposing these Films

The photographs were taken with a Leica camera mounted on the Leica "Universal Reproducing Apparatus." This is a stand on which a projecting arm, moving on a vertical shaft, raises and lowers the camera with attachments which adjust it to photograph objects at various distances away, hence various scales (from 1:12 to several times actual size). The adjusting attachments in most common use were the [illegible] "adapting ring, B" and the"intermediate focusing thread, A". An instruction sheet explains their use, in different combinations, screwed above the camera lens as it looks down at the object to be photographed. Rough focus is arrived at by measurement (figures in the Instruction Sheet) and final focus by a ground glass viewer, which is then replaced by the camera by the rotation of a disk which carries both. (Necessary to remember to open wide the camera lens while focusing, and to stop it down again to its proper opening before taking the picture.) The inadequacy of many of the pictures here listed is due in part to the lack of a good light meter, in part also to wartime conditions: scarcity of good film, and of time and materials in the processing shops.in Limassol and Nicosia in 1940-42.

The parts of the reproducing apparatus, together with the instruction sheet, were assembled from various apothekes of Curium House on 27.IV.54, and were photographed together (VG personal Film 256.17). They were then turned over to G. R. Edwards.
