CONTENT OF VG CURIUM FILMS

This is a copy of the typed list of 1941-42 revised by the addition of a certain number of catalogue numbers given later, some to objects which in 1942 had only their tomb numbers, and others to items whose numbers were changed because they had later been duplicated.

Of the original typed list, a copy was sent to Philadelphia in 1942 and this was one of the papers listed in my report of 18.III.46 as being in the archives of Curium on file in Philadelphia. Another copy was left in Episkopi in 1942, in the records cupboard in Mr. Hill's room. This copy, along with the summary of catalogue numbers given at Curium, and other useful documents, was at some time before 1949 removed from the records cupboard and put into a valise for safe-keeping, from which it was produced by Mr. Hill in April 1954. In the meanwhile, when Ellen Kohler came to work on the records in the spring of 1949, none of these documents was available, with the result that catalogue numbers were duplicated, and a new typed edition of this negative register was made as well as possible from the more or less illegible scratch exposure record. This edition of 1949 omits mention of the scale at which the objects were taken, a record needed because most of them were taken without a visible scale[handwritten: *]; it contains also a certain number of errors due to the roughness of the scratch record. As the new catalogue numbers which it provided have been incorporated in the present - 1954 - edition, it is suggested that the 1949 edition be discarded as incomplete and possible misleading. It is further suggested that the present list be checked against the objects and/or catalogue cards and inventory list, to see whether there are not still more catalogue numbers now given to objects here identified only by their tomb numbers, and whether the catalogue cards of objects catalogued after the photographs were made have prints of these photographs or at least a record of their existence. Note that the stamped handles (SH [handwritten: numbers]) were photographed not in this series of films, but on what are identified on the catalogue cards as "VG personal" films: contacts of some of these have been applied to the cards; contacts of the rest are now being made and will be sent shortly to Episkopi, to be put on the cards. The contacts are all at a special scale, a little under 1:3. I can provide enlargements at actual size

of any that are wanted.[handwritten:] [handwritten: *]The word "scale" in parenthesis
hope means that in this picture a visible scale is included.
