We also commenced removing Trench 4 dump. In removing soil at Trench 4, E-2, two coping-course blocks were found, which are replaced in euthynteria course at trench 4, D-E and Trench 4, Z-H, respectively. (The first block is incomplete & much broken & thinned; the second intact. Under the second block is a mason's mark B, now covered.

Nov 4Attacking the great pile at Trenches 1:3, this morning from all sides, it finally succumbed and we all moved down to Trench 2 (the E wall) Here we shall (a) Remove all dump within the stadium area; (b) Close the following areas: Trench 2 A-Z (= part 6) Trench 10, B-P; [greek: Xi-Upsilon]; N, O; (c) We will clear the section left west of WI, WK, & WL in Trench 2 and also the square shown on the next page at the extreme SE corner of Trench 2. The square mentioned above was cleared, revealing a thin (10-15 cm) stratum of top-soil, followed by a layer of chopped havara (with only one shard & one bit T2914 of a T.C horse) to a fill over bedrock. The bedrock has been quarried. In the bottom fill there were scraps of sherds.
Nov 5 We continue to clear dumps in Trench 2 area; and are also excavating the untouched strip just north west of the IW-KW widening shown on page 39. Nov Nov 4-5: At about the level of the euthynteria course, in the widening, we found bedrock to the north & to the South, the best bit of packed-havara dust floor we have yet uncovered.
Nov: 6: All hands were transferred today to Trench 10, which we are extending to North & South in a search for the euthynteria here. I am also trying to straighten the trench a bit, as is shown on the plan p. 133 where I will also enter notes on these extensions
