Trench 1 - 2 North Wall (Φ-Ω) Section Ω, has not been touched (This side has not been completely excavated). plans pp. 11 f.
Stratification Because of a great amount of brush-roots here and lack of wind drift, the stratification is not as promising as is that to the south. Stratum 1: Black humus, filled with roots. This stratum is, like 1 on the south side, the upper part of the havara dust of which 2 is also composed. Because of a large bush which grew above it, it goes deeper (as much as 40 cm) and is less clearly divided from 2. On its surface these fallen wall blocks rested, only one slightly imbedded. Stratum 2: This thick layer of xapapadush here about pure white, contains broken pieces of wall block but no sherds or intrusions. It resembles Γ-Δ 2 in height & appearance. Stratum 3: This is a stratum of soft earth, varying in color from red to black. It is directly below one in northern X, and to the south merges into the xapapa, which it tinges red at its lowest level. Stratum 4: Mud + stone embankment, as Δ 6 Stratum 5: We dug only to the surface of this stratum, which is composed of soft red earth and small stones.
