AYIA ANNAiii/28/47

The excavator, J. McF., intends to dump the worthless terracotta and sculpture fragments back into the trenches, which will then be closed. The terracotta fragments, now stored in the ruined church at Apollo, were therefore carefully examined. There was an estimated 10 baskets of terracottas, which represented chariot-groups and riders of Classes II - VI in the Altar Two classification; fragments of Class VI were few in number, but there is probably no significance in this fact. In addition, took here many fragments of large figures, both molded and handmade. The molded heads of riders and charioteers were all from Altar Two molds, and the unmolded Class II heads were identical with those of Altar Two. A few characteristic pieces were brought in and will be catalogued, and group-photographs were taken of representative fragments. Photos: J. McF.

The complete absence of Classes I and VII should be noted. (Over)
