(This type has been referred to P 1491 of Tomb 5 in description of sherds, but actually in P 1491 there is still a slight thickening at the rim, and the absolutely plain rim may be earlier.) (See my t. cp. with the incurving bowls) 5 am. smooth amphora, ? as in Tomb 8, 113-115) - Heavier local coarse ware, part of raised flat base (jug?) and of broad amphora handles.

(24/XI/41) (work done 1/XI) Sq Wall A. Digging in the small area described p. 202 was continued down to level ca 1.35 below top of Wall C. Stopped here (in my absence) because several good sized stones cleared (seem to be tumbled), and because by the corner of Wall C rock level appeared (beginning some .12 higher, i.e. slightly above what ought to be the full vertical extent of the 3rd (down) course of the wall) and with the feeling that there was some slight change in the fill (this information from the foreman today). I note on this level (1.35 below top of Wall C) a "Tubus" unguentarium, top gone, which except for (an intoxication) is in situ as found. (Perpendicular distance from line of Wall A, .40. From corner of Wall C, .91 taking this up. The rock cleared by the corner of Wall C is of small extent (.39 along the scarp of the sample, .26 along the line of Wall A to C - i.e. extending just beyond Wall C toward W. Seems rather abruptly cut down, possibly something to do with lower "transverse" drain so. Level 1.35 below top of Wall C is about that of ground level (?) W of Wall C, cf. p. 67 (top of drain 3a)
