Further clearing in area of Trenches 43 and 75
24/XI/41 Came down today to take photographs and clear up written records of some small investigations made a few weeks ago when it was hoped they could be squeezed into a original notebook. The sun being very low at this time of year, must return for several pictures which have to be taken quite early in the morning. Copying now the notes written while the work was going, omitting records of photographs taken them, since the film jammed in the camera and none of the pictures were rescued by "Edward".
30/x/41: By chance foreman being absent this morning, and G. McF. not ready to go on without him, am using the men to take down the corner of fill over the N end (?) of Wall C, where it seems to make a return, and stop, abutting on the well shaft.
[margin left: Drawing of N side of Tr. 75 made 30/x/41, see p. 104 (Vol. 1)] The top layer here (Stratum 1) was removed some weeks ago on another occasion when the men were not occupied. I did not stay to see it done. The stony layer was cleared, and by Christo called an intact change of fill over the whole bit cut down. It seems to slope a bit, and against the NE scarp is about 1.15 from surface instead of 1.00 as in
