(5/VI/41) The torrent-fill rock which forms the walls of Tomb 9 continues over the large stones (chinked by small stones so as to fit tightly). It is clear for a ht. of ca .70 over the stone above that in the martyra between 43 & 43/75 it has a mask of earth which was distinguished from the loose stony fill dug then, which led down nearly to floor of dromos But it is visible by rising gradually in the SE scarp of 43/75 where we cut a little of it. In most of Tr. 43/75 it rises .65 or .70 above large stones but somewhat stepped back, roughly, possibly by our digging a little: Above toward NW end of 43/75 we seem to be have cleared a series of rough steps where the earth above was softer. Possibly an entrance? The rock, massy & disintegrates, seems to extend right to stones of Wall C; clusts of ferns.

The whitish earth continues distinguishable from darker earth behind, which shelves down toward stomion as cleared.
After it was all taken away there was left a sort of hollow descent, rather precipitate, near the bottom rock, ending abruptly*. Left direction as to Thanyas for the bottom below this to be cleared. Came back to find that in half an hour's work before I arrived they had destroyed all the sides of it. No phot. had been taken as it was not finished to bottom. The phot. of the cleaned lump of earth itself may give
