125 (30/v/41) cleared down to this point seems to have been intended to be seen on this side. The white layer goes up hill toward the NW end of the extension so as to cover or nearly cover a wall emerging from the scarp not quite at Right angles to the oblique wall. So this new wall seen in section was probably in ruins when the oblique wall was made though its top level is not much lower

Call now: [margin left: See phot. 17.26 p. 127] "Oblique wall" — Wall A wall not quite at rt. Ls to it — Wall B "fine" wall (see section p. 101) — Wall C

Wall B is also visible in section on both sides of Tr. 75. The top part of it is rough, of unhewn stones, but below are long cut stones. [margin left: Sherds from burnt patch (p. 128 = Lot 17) contain pieces of the casserole [inserted in pink ink: P 1612] in [illegible]] [margin left: - see p. 122 - this piece of plain ware is not clay 2/xi/41] not an even surface on visible face seen in burnt wall at top or near top of white layer is a burnt patch just above large stone which humps through the "stroma" level (see previous page). Burnt patch ca .40 above highest part of plinth. Now being cleared above. Goes all the way

17.29, 17.30 Phots taken of uneven surface of white layer both before 17.29 lunch and after [illegible] 17.30 Christi had worked further down in it, and after he had cleared away the burnt patch. The latter proved to be several cm thick and to contain large frags. of an elegantly profiled casserole. [inserted in pink ink: P 1612] Dig into the white, which in this place (coord. 43 and near corner of 43/75) is very limy?.
