(29/v/41) be sure when digging down outside oblique wall of Tr. 43/75 that a difference of soil in the extension both north of 43/75 is not due to summer exposure.
Have cleaned, in ten martyren "inside" the oblique wall the floor of hard earth among small stones and peebles of larger ones, as found before (see p. 102-3) in 43/75. Trimmed, somewhat, below it, in scarp of Tr. 43, to show stones of layer. The wall continued to the edge of where no stone, by a sort of little channel into which digger says upper darker earth went - probably a stone pulled out of the wall, as it appears below in scarp. The surface "outside" the wall not cleaned very well, hard but no particular significance in conformation, as apparently a beaten floor not clearly distinguishable. However, on the surface, a ton of an amphora which may show in some photograph. Photographs of surfaces either side of oblique [inserted below: 17.20] wall, showing scarps in Tr. [inserted below: 17.21] 43, and in Tr. 43/75.

After clearing away stones, put sherds with stratum 2 in 43/75 proper. dig into earth below. Soft earth with some seems to distinguish itself toward the SW (toward wall), leaving an oblique slope of hard earth (not caught in Tr. 43/75 prop.). In this, at level ca .75 below top surface of stone scour, piece of a profiled glass plate - see p. 105.
