The earth covering the bones is mixed with chavara, presumably fall from above. In the floor one distinguishes clearly the two vertical geological stratification, the coarser continuing the loose pebbly material of the walls above it, while further south the adult skeleton lies on smooth homogeneous "rock". We appear now to have got down to that, anyway!

38 8/VI/40 By the end of yesterday, the skeleton cleared to pelvis and forearms. Gave permission for Achmet to begin as soon as he came this morning, presumably 7:00 AM. I arrived 8:00 AM, to find he had cleared the area from the tomb wall to the head (crushed), leaving ribs and upper arms uncleared. No fruits are visible about the head where they might have been expected. He says the proximity of the tomb wall to the head made it easier to do the clearing in this order. Hope so.

The bones mentioned p. 32 as near #67, and drawn with it on supplem. sheet 1 of plan are still fairly in place. What the folded-over part of #67 rested on is mostly rotted away but seems attached to the fragment w of it, which looks actually more like a clavicle than I have been able to draw it. At 1.65/.60 the frag. is part of a jaw with shells of teeth. At 1.75/.80 are parts of large teeth, roots to south, with crumbling remains of the upper jaw (?) to which they were attached. [margin left: Huge teeth? not human?]
