layer removed.[photograph]

South a In area north of room alpha, cleared a thin layer of brown soil which was probably from soil used to make the kiln. It lay to the east and upon gravel & fill. Cleared fill to the east of kiln along north wall of area. This fill consisted of loose stones and pieces of mosaic and plaster. It was used to fill in the place where the stones. evert. stones of the steps were, and which is tones were probably taken out subsequent to the laying down of the sd rest of the fifth layer, for the fifth layer is cut out for this where was the fill with pieces of mosaic and plaster. They may well have been taken out when the fourth was laid. I an any case they were taken out or laid between the time when the fifth and fourth layers were laid
