Began clearing modern deposit in Room W

Cleared fourth layer South West portion of Room E. The stones began with this layer and the stones of the wall whose top were levels with these stones showed signs of lines from the plow. Therefore, all above this all fourth layer and above probably modern deposit.

Outside Room L cleared all of third layer which was gray and powdery. Christo says that it probably came from fire of hypocaust. The wall on the next to by the. side of the wall of Room L lay was founded directly upon fourth layer. That is that portion of it beyond drain, that is to east of drain. To west of drain, it was founded founded on a thin layer of mud which was founded on an earlier wall. The whole of this wall was thus earlier than the third layer.

The ditch along wall East of Room U was dug out. to its bottom. It contained a fine pa brownish sandy soil. This was continuation of soil which had been previously dug out. This ditch extended about 50 cm below present level of wall and was about 30 cm wide. It was separated from ditch along outside wall by a ridge of earth, on top of which ridge was a very red fill of sand & earth. The ridge that is left seems an extension of the fourth layer. The ditch along outside wall was filled with a powdery earth similar to that of third layer. This fill came to an end at about just beyond first corner of west wall. It was narrower at eastern end 25 cm) than western eastern (45 cm) and deeper shallower at East Ea western than eastern. 50 cm below at surface of preserved wall at western end and 60 cm at Eastern end. but this difference in height may be due to amount of wall preserved. This ditch ends just about opposite
