20:15(a) (From p. 117)

23 June 1954 In north half of trench change sherds at -1.20, which represents approximately the LC III building level on the scarp left in 20:15 by Daniel. In south half reach bottom of tumble finally at -1.59 without finding any discernible floor or surface. In clearing tumble find that it lay on bedrock.

Photo BAM '54 no.9 South part of 20:15(a) with tumble largely cleared. Looking south.

26 June 1954 Clear north half to -1.59 finding two metal objects. Continue clearing to bed rock in last hope of finding furnaces. Below -1.59 there are patches of grayish green earth but on the whole no real change of texture. In the entire trench, which at the N end has been dug to a depth of two meters, there is scarcely any appreciable change of soil below the top soil which varies between 30-40 cm. From 40 to about 1.10 m. the soil is slightly grayish red, below this it becomes brownish red. This corresponds roughly to the strata of 20:15(b) cf p. 122
