Summer 1951 28-7-51 JFD had suggested in mss. that the house consisting of 2:9, 2:10 and 2:11a was larger and perhaps included also the early wall under wall between 2:1 & 4 and 2:2. This seems very likely and to investigate the connection decide to dig a pit in 2:5, just at the doorway to 2:1, where the corner of the early wall should be located.

The floor of 2:5 from which digging will start is the sort of chorara-plaster floor at 9:35-9:47 (see JFD, V, 125). It will be necessary to cut away the SW side of the step from 2:1 up to 2:5 (JFD, V, 79-81)

We began by taking out a rect. cutting 0.80 m. wide - the SW part of the doorway and 1.00 m. into 2:5. The chorara-plaster floor had a max. thickness of 0.02 m at the E. corner of the rect., faded out towards the wall at the W. corner. It separated easily from a layer of hard brown earth, except at the W. where there may be p poros [illegible]

The brown earth varied from 0.05 at the S. corner to ca. 0.10 m. at the N. It is cut in a straight line even with the S.E. side of the wall between 2:1 & 2:5.
