Your letter of Oct.23 reached Peter Megaw about Jan.13. He forwarded it to us, and a little later we got yours to George of Oct.6. The Antiquities department has obliged with Elias(who assisted Joe Last on the main plans of Bamboula) and he has done the additional drawing you ask for, also the southern end of the early circuit wall in Topha's yt, with the sounding now made behind it. To take your points in order: Trench 2. Tracing enclosed. Post holes: I think the most westerly he has drawn is irrelevant, but you will recognize this if so. Low cutting by circuit wall: those are some deeper places at the north end. Post mark on stone base in Room 25B(?): roughly oval, 0.155 by 0.165; marked more now by marginal outline than by difference in weathering. Cross sections on squared paper left behind by you: considerable search has failed to reveal anything that could be these; there is one more place to look. Trench 16. Tracing enclosed. It may be clearer in the photographs than in the drawing that at the west end of the extension in question there are parts of two walls, not one; at its east end there seems to be a corner of wall emerging from the north wall of the trench, and the other stones there seem to be fallen. Note the intrusions marked off by Christo. Trench 20-21. Tracing enclosed, with small correction. Christo and Elias and I were not able to find any omission of walls from the drawing, only this wall seemed to be incomplete because inaccurately drawn to look wider in proportion than it is. We are not sending the original plan (noting that you have a copy) because Mr.Hill instructed us last June not to travel with any original records of the dig, to say nothing of committing them to the mails. *i.e. the western section Photographs. We have not been able to find the films you speak of. We searched in all of our luggage that Christo or Savvy knew about, to wit 1 valise all covered with stickers, 1 knapsack, and 1 zambili full of tsarouhia. We found a good many films in boxes that had been left in drawers, and examined each one (holding it by the edges). We looked everywhere else we could think of. Trenches 12, 15, and 16, as identified in your letter, have subsequently been cleaned and photographs taken. This used the end of one Leica film and the second has not been finished.
