25-3-39 Start a trench m. wide, reaching m. in length by 25-3-39. It is on the N. side of the Bamboula, running straight up the hill at a point just west of tomb # 3. It is sunk with the double purpose of discovering tombs and of seeing the relative position of cemetery and town. Numerous cuttings are found, several being of tombs. Several βούφες are discovered, mostly sunk into tombs. Plunderers shafts do not seem to have caused much damage. A circular pit is dug to a depth of . It continues on down, full of dark modern disturbed earth. The skeleton of a donkey and an iron donkey shoe were found about 1.50 down. They are essentially modern. A group of stones set in a cutting in the north of this shaft seems to lie the door of a tomb, through whose dromos this deep shaft was cut. The rock just up to the hill from this has collapsed. This seems to be the chamber of the tomb. Near the northern (lower) end of the trench we find the chamber (to p. 39)
