strosis we find a uniform layer of stones bound together with white clay. Both this and. the higher rock fill look very much like paving. Many large pithos sherds lie flat on it.

Remove the pithos sherds and clear to the level in question. We also remove part of the rock fill, which was left in the extreme south. We now have a continuous level sloping from 7.06 in the south, \by the large piece of rock lying near the surface/, to the 7.92 level in the N., by the large triangular stone.

The southernmost 2.50 meters of this level are of whitish earth, with slightly grey and red spots, with relatively few stones. The 2 meters adjacent on the north consist of tightly and fairly orderly packed stones, ending with some larger stones. Beyond this is the stoney layer at 7.92, described when found several days ago. Remove 3 gunny-sacks of sherds. Photos Q 4-5 at 7.06 = 7.92 (to p. 111)
