N-S (L.C.II) wall. Photo 288 showing 2E4 at this level, cut through in the west over the N-S wall. Dig below 11.69 = 11.79, through about 3 cm. of the earth described, finding another very firm level of similar earth, but without yellow particles, cut by the wall. Call this 11.72 level, without exact measuring. 23.5.38 Dig below 11.72, and find, in the south only, a fine sandy grey-brown layer at 11.80 = 12.19 Several stones lie on it. An intermediate level was cleared between 11.72 and 11.80 = 12.19, but the stones went through it. There is rock in the N-W and running down the middle of 2E4, but there is fine sandy grey earth at 12.14 in the N-E corner. It may be a pit. Start to clear it, and soon find bedrock. Dig in the southeast below 11.80 / 12.19, through fine sandy grey-brown earth, with occasional medium-sized stones. Start to find a packed grey level. (To p. 109)
