13-5-38TRENCH 12 from p. 65
(in the W. ext.)

To the south, from near the pit on, there was no x brick level, but sandy earth, rather yellower and redder, at 6.88 . This comes down on a layer of stones bound in rather hard clayey light brown earth, with many stones sticking through it. The cylinder seal, p. 62, #2, was found lying on this level at the northern end of the section, where there are no stones visible.

16-5-38 The excavation of the many intrusions in the central and north part of the trench make it fairly certain that the white layer is the top of a thick fill of pulverized sandstone, brought in here to level out the bed-rock.

A pit is cleared in the bed-rock. It is 0.95 deep x 1.20 wide, and likely held a pithos.

Dig below 7.07 in the south, through earth very similar to that dug before in this area, becoming slightly darker and with some white patches, at 7.21. Find two more intrusions, one in the S-W corner and one adjacent to the "pit" on the east. At the north (To p. 75)
