Find a break in the bed-rockleading into the chamber of Tomb 3.The break is roughly circular,in diameter. Otherwise theroof of the chamber is intact. Thereis only cm. of earth over therock at this point. The rock ishard white calcareous sandstone.Digging down we find twocut blocks of fair size, but nofallen rock, perhaps indicatingthat the roof was cut for the lastburial, not collapsed; or maybethat it had already collapsed andwas cleared out at that time. The earth of the tomb showsno sign of disturbance.50 cm. below the highest preservedpart of the roof begin to findbones and pottery of L.C. III type, lying on silted earth showingclear signs of frequent flooding.Parts of two or three skulls, numbered I-III are found at thislevel. This is not a buriallevel, but these objects areclearly all floated by the waterwhich must have flooded thetomb every winter. Some bonesat the back of the tomb are more(To p. 55)
