Start cleaning up odds and ends in Trench 4. Photo 207 of 4:13 at 9.92 = 10.12 before digging below. Dig below 9.92 = 10.12, through redbrown earth, soon finding the original floor, at 9.92 = 10.16. In part it is of crushed white stone, as in 4:9; elsewhere it is of grey clay with much white.

7-4-38 Finish clearing the 9.92 = 10.16 floor. In the N. the stone floor is well preserved, but in the east south its place is taken by sandy brown earth with black + white particles, punctured by one or more pits. Photo of 210 of 9.92 = 10.16 floor

8-4-38 In the line of the N. wall of 4:12 the earth is stonier, though the 9.92 = 10.16 level of 4:13 seems to continue over it, at 10.09. Photo 211 cleared to this level

11-4-38 Dig below 9.92 = 10.16 (started 8-4-38) in the part where the rock floor is not preserved, and find a firm level of clayey red earth with white grits, sloping from 9.8 10.24 up to the crushed rock (To p. 167)
