1-4-38 Finish clearing 2:13 to the 11.43 = 11.77 level. In the S-W, against the rock cutting, we find three small pits close together, two of them set with stones as if to support posts. The third may once have had similar stones. It has a deep circular shaft in the center.

Along the south end of the trench, under old trench 3 Archaic disturbed earth goes to bed rock, which it has shelved.

All in all we find 7 small pits in the south area.

Clear a pit (#1) sunk under the 11.43 = 11.77 level. It is filled with very stoney brown earth, and contains many sherds. It goes to 11.99 cm. It is in the N-W, in part under the S. end of the E. wall of 2:13. It contains a few bones of one middle-sized animals, and looks very much like rubbish.

2-4-38 Start clearing another pit, #2, about 30 cm. east of #1. It contains similar fill, a bit redder, with much crushed white rock. It stops at 12.23, but continues under the E. wall & into the undug area.

Start clearing the earth left on the rock. to p. 159
