-4.37TRENCH 10(107)

Start trench 10, 1.50 wide, connecting trench 2 at unit 3 N with trench 4 at unit 8.

-4.37 Begin to find undisturbed brown earth with some grit, at 9.48 (N) and 9.57 (S.), and isolate 4 intrusions. The surface in this trench was at 8.92 (N) to 8.97 (S.) Start clearing the intrusions

-4.37 Finish clearing the intrusions, and start digging in the undisturbed earth, cutting through rather hard brown soil with a fair amount of limestone particles, and much vegetable matter. Start of making a floor at 9.56: 9.57, and a wall close to the W. side of the trench in the south part.

-4.37 Clear the 9.56: 9.57 floor. It is of red-brown earth with a great deal of crushed limestone. This fuses with the 9.42=9.55 floor in trench 4, unit 8. This applies only to the part north of the sunken pot; south of it the clay earth is sandy and free of limestone!. (See p. 161)
