Units 8 and 12: Finish removing topsoil and clearing intrusions. We find a layer of clay and ash, mixed, at 9.84=10.08 in unit 8 and 9.72=9.99 in unit 12. There are stones, apparently fallen, in this ashy layer in the S-W corner of unit 12. Photo taken 21 of units 8 + 12 at this level (22)
Unit 11: Start digging through the undisturbed earth in the west, where there is a stoney layer which may represent wall debris.
Unit 4: Finish clearing the 9.44=9.71 floor, red-brown, sandy, with many sherds in situ. Cut below, through sandy redbrown earth with decomposed vegetable matter and some grit, to the rock=9.83/floor (9.90=9.97)
Unit 9 Finish the χαβάρα floor. In the S-W corner and along the SW wall is a band of earth (including the χαβάρα noted on p. 35) which is distinct from the fill over the 9.90=9.94 floor, and seems earlier. Leave it for the time being. Photo Double-exposed of unit 9 at 9.90=9.94.
