the wall to unit 1 may be a door. A plaque of stone just east of it was just covered by the floor. A soft spot in the floor near a well-cut stone in the wall to unit 7 may [illegible] represent a post hole.

22.3.37 Clear in unit 2 to a floor of brown earth at 8.69. This level wanders out to the east north with no wall showing. Called "floor above rock". Skim areas 8 + 9, trying to isolate intrusions.

ic23.3.37Dig through 8.69 floor in unit 2, finding the bed-rock, very uneven, at 8.98 to 9.21. We isolate a large surface intrusion which had gone unobserved until now. Find a cutting in the rock, with a flat stone in it, at 8.99. This must be a post support.

Work in units 8 and 9, trying to isolate the all too obvious intrusions. The earth looks generally very much disturbed. (to p. 167)
