Continuing clearing unit 3 and the area west of it. West we find bed rock at a depth of only from the surface ( absolute). There are some cuttings in it which may turn out to belong to missing foundations. Clear the floor (9.21) of unit 3, finding a fair amount of pottery on it, several pieces nearly complete. We also find a broken mortar and a whet-stone. The east wall, of rubble, is well preserved. On the west the room runs off on to the bed rock, where any walls were in reach of the plow and doubtless lost. The north wall is not yet in evidence.
Continue work in unit 4, removing fallen stones and finding some pots and a hanging lamp in situ. Work here is much confused by three messy surface intrusions. Much of the day is spent clearing out the intrusions. Most are quite shallow, going about 20 cm. below the 1^st floor.
