ChavaraRoom A is divided by a curbing of small stones, 0.15 high, crossing the room N & S. It goes over the mosaic, which originally covered the entire room without a break. In A_1 the mosaic is covered to the level of the curbing with a layer of pebbles, sand, and lime, which seems to be ground-up paving. A_2 is covered with a layer 0.02 - 0.05 deep of very hard packed sandstone dust. Also, in some places, plaster, such as used elsewhere for repairs, is over the mosaic. In other places there are repairs in white lime wash
SS6 Ω 0, just over hard-pack: frags. of late Roman B.
Over most of the floor in A_2 there is a newer floor of pebbles, sand, + lime mortar, ca. 0.10 above the mosaic base. Remove it.
