30-3-35GENERAL [circled: 24]

I have decided to discard the trench system of recording finds in this region, which is now being cleared generally, and to substitute a system of numbered sections for uniform throughout the region. On the general plan, on which I am now at work, I am making two alphabetical series, with one letter for every two metres. For north and south measurements minuscule Greek letters will be used; for east and west, capitals. Since one ser use of the alphabet is not sufficient for the area, the alphabet is repeated in prime letters. Thus a' is the section directly following ω. To locate a find I will simply designate the square in which it falls, with the depth. Hence Λκ 1.00 corresponds to the former Tr. 31 A 1.00. If the region in question falls in 2 squares I will note as MNaβ MNaβ.
