3. Campus: - We have planted several thousand small trees (pines, cypress and eucalyptus) which require watering for at least the first three summers and although very little money has been available for this purpose, undoubtedly the campus will be covered with trees sometime in the not too distant future. Water is piped to most parts of the campus for the purpose of watering the trees, and student gardens. The pine trees that existed on the campus have not had the care they require but we intend to have them properly trimmed next autumn.
4. Water Supply: - The water used by the college comes from a Semi-artesian well located about eight hundred meters from the College grounds and is pumped to a reservoir in the attic of Benaki Hall. Psychico water is available for use in emergencies.
The capacity of the well is about [handwritten: six] tons per hour, and with the assistance of galleries in the well at a depth of about thirty meters the pumps are enabled to pump constantly for five hours ten tons per hour, thus decreasing the cost per ton of water. The capacity of the well, however, is constant while the demands of the College are steadily increasing every year. The water consumed four years ago was about forty tons per day while now [handwritten: it] is over seventy tons. If our needs continue to increase the well will soon prove insufficient to meet them.
We must bear in mind also that the main pipe connecting the Artesian well with the College is of steel, and according to official tables such pipes do not last longer than sixteen years. Within a period of six years therefore we will be faced with the considerable expense.
