Mr. Hill leaves Sunday morning to Athens.

27 June.Terracotta architectural fragments left by Mr. Hill in room 1 (all from room 2 hypocaust). I am removing gradually to be stored by Mekmet in place in hypocaust where they were found. As there is no earth to support them anymore Mekmet is having a hard time carrying out Mr. Hill's directions, so I am putting some in sacks to hold them together. Shall put Mr. Hill's labels with them in sacks.

28 June.Mekmet finished digging p. 1547-5 n.e. of large plunge bath down to bedrock. This trench is being dug to drain the area. I have changed my mind about placing Mr. Hill's architectural finds in sacks. See p. 1562. Those which Mekmet cannot place in room 2 hypocaust where they were found I am placing in room 1 hypocaust copying Mr. Hill's tags (in pencil) in black waterproof ink on wooden tags. I have also kept Mr. Hill's tags and placed them with the finds also; as I have not always been able to make out his handwriting. As this room is to be roofed over the tags should remain intact indefinitely.

29 and 30 June. Hardly any digging. Cleaning up mainly. Michalis, the foreman, continues to restore walls of room 5 Bath - now beginning to complete s.e. corner. Dump. Removing some of dump 13 m. north of Bath. Cistern 1. Removing some stones and earth from Cistern 1 but no ancient fill or debris. This cistern was dug out before we came to Kourion. There appears to be some ancient fill (or dump) left. Finds. Have checked all coins and finds. All in numbered finds from Apollo in 2 baskets in west Apotheke. Have listed all coins from this and last season's dig and am packing these to take them to Nicosia for export license. Have gone over all shards. Have marked on back of tags how many, or rather what proportion have been thrown out. All to be stored in guard house. Unnumbered finds. All finds to which I gave no number are in one basket - consist mainly - almost all - of glass fragments or odd shards. Are in west apotheke by numbered finds (also in baskets - 2). Some of these should be listed and catalogued. Probably almost all numbered finds should be catalogued. A.P. Architectural pieces are either left @@ on site or in guard house. this season's dig are in west apotheke. Have packed all coins found in spring of 1948 and of 1949 to be taken to Nicosia for export license. Left this morning July 1. Lists in file under coins.
